To begin with, I was a little unsure how this would end up working. A lack of sleep the previous night was going to give me problems, I could tell, as well as having to pester my parents to drop me off in St Austell so early... still, I managed to get there, and ended up going up with Sharon Pearce (Thank-you for that by the way).
On the way up, I made a few trades (I forget what they were), and managed to convince Mark Cross to lend me two Battle Faders for the day, which was awesome (Thank-you Mark). I put them in my main Monarch Suppression deck, and moved instant fusion to the side deck.
Anyhow, once we got there, and the waiting started, I could already feel the toll my lack of sleep was putting on me. I kept my focus as best I could, as round one began.
Round 1: Harry Ollis (Pet Shop)
Game 1: Despite taking some heavy damage during this, I was able to keep control without any real problems. Prime Material Dragon was too much for him to handle in the end. Game 2: Summoned out Light and Darkness Dragon and systematically destroyed him. He wasn't able to put up much of a fight here really.
1-0
Round 2: Daniel Whittal (Plants)
Game 1: I was really losing focus here. We clashed for a bit early on, before I over-extended myself and he set up Black Garden, messing up my attack force. I lost control and was wiped out. Game 2: Made at least three absurdly dumb misplays, and was punished heavily for it. Never really got going here.
1-1
Round 3: Nicky Woodside (Monarch)
Game 1: She never really got going properly, and I was able to just suppress and annihilate her with Light and Darkness Dragon. Game 2: I summoned out Prime Material Dragon, and she didn't draw any monsters. I won easily.
2-1
Round 4: Gary Allan (Blackwing)
Game 1: Didn't draw much in the way of useful cards, and was picked off before inflicting a single point of damage. Game 2: A better hand allowed me to take control here. Aside from walking into a few Kalut's, I was able to just stay in power, and beat him down. Game 3: Drew very little. One or two tribute cards and a hand full of high levels does not make for effective attack strategies, especially after I ended up walking into a Solemn.
2-2
Now in the previous couple of games, I started to notice something. I was focusing more, despite being tired. I still don't know why that is, but it continued to happen, as I went into the next round.
Round 5: Nick Lovelock (Monarch)
Game 1: The guy didn't seem to know what most of my cards did, and wasn't able to offer much in the way of resistance. Game 2: Pretty much the same as Game 1.
3-2
Round 6: Tom Pound (Jinzo Returner)
Game 1: Turns out unless Jinzo swarms, it isn't very effective against decks that only run two trap cards, both of which are Royal Decree. I won without too many problems here. Game 2: Jinzo Swarmed, and I wasn't able to counter it properly. Lost heavily. Game 3: Jinzo Swarmed again, but I had a better defense this time. I survived it, and Chimeratech blew his field up, which was great until he played Overload Fusion. I Stopped Chimeratech with an Enemy Controller, then drew another one at the start of my turn. I thought snatching Chimeratech would let me attack until he was out, but since he had no other monsters, it didn't work. Turned out not to be that much of a problem though, since I had Call of the Haunted face down, and that was enough to finish him off in one strike.
4-2
Round 7: Willow Walsh (Six Samurai)
Game 1: My creatures proved too strong here, as she surrendered very quickly. Game 2: Drew nothing I could summon, and lost out easily. Game 3: I baited her with Vanity's Fiend straight away, and after I took control by other means her Reckless Greed's stopped her from drawing the stuff to come back. She surrendered again.
5-2
Not bad considering the appalling start.
Considering I had beaten Willow at the end, I was expecting to come ahead of her in the final rankings. I was feeling pretty sure of myself when the twelfth name was called, and we were both still in there, since I was sure that put me in the top 10. Then my name was read as the 11th.
*twitch*
Really, that was just frustrating. I didn't feel angry at the time (probably too tired), but on reflection, it does annoy me.
Anyhow, while everyone went to MacDonalds, I wandered off and lay down outside behind a hedge. I needed some rest, and I never liked the smell of those places...
I think once we started off home, I must have fallen asleep for a while. No idea how long for, but I think it must have saved me, since after being dropped off, I still had a long way to go. I walked up to the train station and waited there for about 20 minutes, before getting the train to Truro. Once there, my dad picked me up, and I arrived back after 11:00. Greeat.
Oh well. It was an interesting day, and before returning Mark's Battle Faders, I was able to get one of my own, which was awesome. And while I prefer MFM because it seems more organized, I will say it was lovely not to be playing in the cold, so that's one aspect of it I enjoyed anyway.
