After a discussion today i was wondering if I could get anything arranged for a Warhammer 40k or fantasy tournament. Ive had a few ideas of what we could do at the shop and want to put them out there to see what people think, to see if you can develop these ideas or if you think they are bad or good?

Battle Force show down
Each person buys a battleforce from Mad for Miniatures.
Each person is allowed 1200pt spend on that army (more then generous).
You can only use models from that battle force and your army list can only include models which can be made from the box you get. no exceptions

You get 1 month to make and paint your Battle Force/Battalion depending on what we do. At the end of that month we have a tournament. The winner of that tournament will receive a battle force/battalion of there choice with a smaller prize for the best painted/themed army as voted by all the players in the event?

Of course you could just get your battalion made to play if you run out of time to paint it, but i believe that a month to paint 1 of these box sets is fairly easy.

The show down!
You can buy any 1 regiment/squad box set from Mad for Miniatures with a maximum spend of £20 when we have decided fantasy or 40K. Again you get a certain amount of time to put that unit together and paint it (two weeks possibly). Then we all get together one Saturday or at the club on a large table and have a game with our 1 box set. Last standing unit gets a Regiment/Squad Box from the shop of their choice upto the value of £20 again a smaller prize for best painted regiment/squad

Highlander - there can be only one
Each person buys a special character from Mad for Miniatures from either the 40K or Fantasy range when we decide. Again you have a period of time to paint your models (2 weeks). We all get together and have a battle between Special characters. Winner gets a special character from the shop equal to the value of the model the purchased in the previous place. A smaller prize for the runner up.

Wizards - its a blast
Each person buys an Empire Wizard and has to paint it up in one of the randomly selected Laws of Magic. Each person has 2 weeks to paint and make the wizard to the respective law ie gold, bright etc etc. At the end of the time we all get together and play a game with our wizards a bit like the Highlander game.

Depending on the number of entries players would be awarded points for painting and points for where they finish in the game. For example 6 players 1pt for last - 6pts for first in the game, and painting - 6 points for best and 1pt for last.

Winner would get a £20 gift voucher

So there you have it some ideas for tournaments. Id like people not only to let me know what they think but if they do want to do any of these, or what game thed rather do it for? etc

I also had an idea of letting people use models they all ready had but charging an entry fee for the tournament?Huh?

Huh

I really like the battleforce/battalion idea, however I think you will find 1200 a little high on the fantasy side at least - alot (not all) of the battalions struggle hitting 750.

How would you plan to tackle the hero situation? I know a few of the Battalions have models that are suitable, but again alot of them dont and when some armies require a certain amount of characters you may have a few issues (Bretonnians, Tomb kings and Vampire counts all come to mind).

The rest of the idea's sound like they could be alot of fun, and at the end of the day ill be up for joining in with any of the above  Tongue

Cheers

Good to hear people are already interested in my ideas. I was hoping that someone would query me on the BF points values for amies, maybe a 1000 point max limit would be good. If you cant make a 1000 pts which sounds likely then thats no issue it just means we have a basis for people to work towards.

As far as Heros go as there wont be any lords for Fantasy so that helps. I will take a look tomorrow at the Battalions and Batte Forces to see what i could do about this. So watch this space for that one.....

Ill run this post for a week and then decide on our first event

So after a  think and some discussion at the Warhammer Club yesterday we have come to the conclusion that the First Event we are going to be doing is:

BIG BAD BATTALION BASH

Now there are two ways you can take part in this event, either:

1. Pre-order a Fantasy Battalion from Mad for Miniatures.

2. Use models you already have that can make up a Battalion.

Now if you do the first option you must have your pre-order with deposit of £10.00 in to Vini at Mad for Miniatures by Tuesday 23rd February 2010
. This will give Vini time to pre-order any Battalions that he doesnt have in stock to make sure all players get their Battalion in time for the Start date of Wednesday 3rd March 2010.

The Battalions will be given out at the 3rd March Wednesday Night Warhammer Club so people can get straight on with making their Battalions (now dont worry if you cant make it to the club that night you can pick up your Battalion from Mad for Miniatures at any time from 1st March).

From when you start your Battalion you will have 1 month to get it made, painted and ready for Battle. Your Army can be no more then 750 points and must only include parts from the Battalion. You may not use parts from any other source.  Converting is fine but again all parts must be sourced from the Battalion you purchased.

When the month of preparation time is over we will run a series of games over the club nights the first games will be on Wednesday 7th April 2010. The tournament will either consist of swiss rounds or be a straight knockout event. We have plenty of time to decide that!

If you already have an army you could use, or just need to get a unit or so to make up a Battalion then you can still take part but must follow all the rules for preparing your army to battle just like the other guys. All parts in your army must add up to what you'd usually get in 1 Battalion of your selected army.

For e.g. JP wants to take part in the event but doesnt want to buy a Battalion. Luckily he already has an Orc Chariot, 20 Night Goblins and 10 Spider Riders in his Orc and Goblin Army. So all he needs to do is grab a box of Orc Boys and then he will have the same contents as an Orc and Goblin Battalion. Sorry to use you as an example Josh but you were a good one!

The only difference between Buying a Battlion and not apart from the obvious is that you will have to pay a £5.00 entry fee to play in the tournament at the end. So if you pre-order a Battalion from Mad for Miniatures as stated above then you will get free entry in to the tournament therefore saving yourself 10% on your Battalion effectively.

All entry money will be put towards prizes!

So details again breifly:

Pre order your Battalion before Tuesday 23rd Feb with £10.00 deposit
Collect you Battalion any day from Monday 1st March (preferably at Club 3rd March)
Get your army made, painted and based with 750 point army list
Play in the club tournaments which will run from 7th April

Players taking part so far:

Buying Battalion
Vini Gardner - Skaven
Matt Beer - Bretonnians
Hannah Beer - Lizardmen
Tim Jones - (Undecided Yet)
Clive Gardner - Empire
Tom - Skaven

Using models already have
Mark Cross - High Elves
Josh Poet Pearce - Orcs & Goblins

plus ive had a few maybe/more then deffinates still plenty of time to decide

Andrew Pinn
Robbie Hamley

If you would like to enter this event can you post your name here with army choice and wether you wil be buying a Battalion or using models you already have.

Im really looking forward to this, it will be nice to see some more painted fantasy armies at the club!

I think we should go for the straight knockout option - that way we have no over complicated scoring system, and would make the event easier to run.

Are we going to stop at battalions, or are there any plans to expand this in to a "tale of fantasy painters" style and add something to a certain criteria (1 special/rare, or a hero etc) each month until we all have 2000 point armies?

Cheers

I think thats a good idea Ego Ninja - a complicated scoring system can make things less fun, plus the straight knockout touranemt can probaily get completed over a few clubs. As far as expanding the armies that sounds like a cool idea and somethng we should discuss over the next few clubs.

Last night myself and Ego Ninja had a little discussion about the Battalion Bash. Remember if you want to take part jot your name down here or in the shop. Ive had a couple of deposits already for Battalions so thats cool.

After our discussion we came to the conclusion that we should extend our Battlion Bash over a 6 month period. Now dont be scared of that, we wont need to buy a Battalion every month, well unless you want to.lol. The 5 following months after Battalion month will go something like this:

Month 1: 1 Battalion or models from a Battalion
Month 2: +1 Core +1 Character
Month 3: +1 Special
Month 4: +1 Rare Choice
Month 5: +1 Core/Special/Rare
Month 6: +1 Centerpiece model/s (basically anything youd like to finish your army off with.

Obviously this is just a rough guide, but it would go something like this with a tournament at the end of every monthish. Obviously same would apply with the tournament paying if you buy new models as part of the Battalion Bash a free entry to the tournament, if you use models you already have £5.00 entry. All entry money goes to club fund.

This way we get 6 months of painting, making and playing and we should all end up with a nice big fully painted army, hopefully.

Also dont worry, you dont have to committe to the whole 6 months if you'd like to drop out at any time you can.
