I was planning on entering this with a new deck I'd been building for a couple of weeks now, but since I still lacked a few major cards for it, I went with my Monarch deck again.
Match 1: Gareth Curl (Gladiator Beasts) Both games gave me issues, as throughout them I was unable to really gain any momentum. I was able to inflict a little damage in game two and mess with him using Kaiser Glider, but that was about all I could do. 0-2
Match 2: Aaron Fisher (Lightsworn) Game one was tricky, and left me under a lot of pressure. Clashing repeatedly, I finally took control at the end with Vanity's Fiend and My Body as a Shield. Game two I hot Vanity out much faster and impaired him severely. He was still hard to get at properly, but I was in control through more of it and finally shut down his movements. 2-0
Match 3: Michael Clarricoats (Chaos Cat) Game one I managed to summon out Light and Darkness Dragon, but despite that I just could not get going really. After I was forced to blow my Decree, I ran out of options fast. Game two I summoned Stratos and then forgot to set Enemy Controller, so Firedog then caught me off guard. I took out the resulting Stardust with Kaiser Glider, but then he summoned Gale and Glider's effect placed it back in his hand for future use. From there, I was pretty much done. 0-2
Match 4: Tim Cox (Six Samurai) Game one was truly painful to watch, as throughout it he failed to draw a monster. I went with Light and Darkness Dragon and took the game with that. Game two went ok for me until he went into Thought Ruler Archfiend, which at the time I had no answers for. Game three, I took a couple of impacts, then gained control with Vanity's Fiend and finally beat him down with a Spell Striker. 2-1
Match 5: Kim Evrett (Infernity) Game one, she was nervous of my set card so she delayed swarming for a turn. This turned out to be a mistake, as I then summoned out Vanity's Fiend and proceeded to beat her down to 100 life points. Thinking I had it won, I went for a self-removal with Caius the Shadow Monarch, and walked into Torrential. She then swarmed me, although Enemy Controller lowered the damage somewhat. By that time though, the Cyber Dragon in my hand was enough to win really. Game two, her hand was stuffed up with monsters, and she just could not get going at all, as her hand stuffed up with Necromancers. I took it fairly easily. 2-0
Match 6: Charlie Mann (Jinzo Returner) In the first game, I immediately went into Chimeratech Fortress Dragon to stop him drawing with Card Trooper. He hit back, and after an interchange of blows, I finally took the game by shutting him down with Vanity's Fiend. Game two, I immediately went into Dimensional Fissure and Royal Decree, and he ran out of options. I tried to take him out quickly, but my hand lagged, and I had to wait until I got out a seconf tribute monster to do any decent damage. 2-0
Match 2: Lucas Beeler (Gladiator Beasts) Game one was incredibly close. I got out Prime Material Dragon and messed with him using that, until he went for a suicide with Gyzarous. I took a few heavy impacts, gained control with Vanity, and then he accidentally folded when I played Soul Exchange, forgetting I couldn't attack. Game two I went in to Light and Darkness Dragon faster then I'd have liked too. It went well, and I beat him down to 500 life points, but then he took control and shut me down with Mask of Restrict. I tried to disable it by tricking him with Decree, but it didn't work and I got trashed. Game three Prime Material Dragon, then Vanity's Fiend put me in control, and I ended the game by breaking through with Spell Striker. 2-1
5-2
Didn't top 8. However, I did qualify thanks to two spots getting handed down, which was nice, although it probably makes me the weakest out of those that have qualified so far. Doesn't matter to me really though. T'was enjoyable.
